So, you have to move. The date is determined, truck and movers ordered. It’s time to start the most time-consuming part of the move — packing stuff and furniture. It would seem that this is a simple job, but in reality it is necessary to take into account a lot of points. After all, it is the correct reliable packaging that will ensure the safety of your furniture and fragile items, simplify loading and unloading, as well as unpacking things, which means adaptation in a new place. Based on many years of experience and proven technology for packing our clients property before moving, we made a list of important aspects and simple rules, as well as added a couple of tricks and life hacks. Their observance will allow you not only to pack your bags in the best way, but also significantly optimize the process of the entire move as a whole.
The first thing to decide before moving is, of course, packaging materials. Poor quality or inappropriate packaging specifications will negate all your further efforts.
The most universal type of packaging is specialized packing boxes made of dense multilayer corrugated cardboard, with detailed fields for marking.
An important point — provide materials for different things. In addition to standard packing boxes of various sizes and adhesive tape, stretch film, wardrobe boxes for transporting clothes on a coat hanger, air bubble film, protective profiles and corners may be required.
If you are having difficulty calculating the required amount of packaging, just contact our managers.
labeling will help much as possible to facilitate the process of unpacking housegoods in a new house.
If the packing boxes you purchased do not have special fields for marking, then do not be too lazy to put marks on your own. The more you sign the packing box, the more convenient it will be to find the necessary things. Indicate the room / room from which these things were collected; piece of furniture (things from a chest of drawers, a closet or a bedside table, for example), type of things (clothes, dishes, documents) and to which family members belong.
Additionally, for clarity, you can use different colors of tape or markers, giving each room its own color. So even with a cursory glance at the packing box it will be clear — the things from which premises are packed into it.
Mark packaging with fragile, fragile objects correctly, use the inscription “glass” or special badges (a glass or an exclamation mark).
All packing boxes before moving must be signed on several sides.
Do not neglect this simple rule! Be sure to make a numbered list of all the packing boxes with a brief indication — what kind of things are packed in each. Such a document will also help you out a lot on the day of moving (it is convenient to check against it whether everyone has loaded it into the truck, whether all things have reached the new address), and after that it will save a lot of time and effort in finding the right little thing.
So, you have chosen a quality container. The moment has come for immediate preparations for the move — time to pack and pack.
Keep track of the weight of the packing boxes, do not overload them. This is an inconvenience when moving them, and the risk of tearing.
The general principle for packing any thing: put heavier things (for example, books) at the bottom of the box, and you can place something lighter on top.
For packing light volumetric items — clothes, bedding, children’s toys — medium-sized boxes are well suited.
Put dishes, books, and other heavier things and objects in smaller boxes to prevent overloading.
One of our favorite life hacks. Clothes «on a coat hanger» are most conveniently packed and transported in wardrobe boxes — nothing is rumpled or dirty.
Fragile objects, dishes, vases, secure with several layers of air bubble packing tape, fix it with adhesive tape, only then carefully fold it into the boxes.
Small indoor plants in pots are easy to pack: put them in a box of a suitable size, filling the gaps between them with wrapping paper, for example. The main thing is to monitor the temperature during transport!
Packed items immediately try to place indoors compactly. Most likely, there will be a lot of boxes, and they should not clutter up the space. Do not stack heavy boxes on top of each other — the lower one may not support the load.
Furniture that will not pass in height in an elevator or car are better to disassemble before transportation. Be sure to mark all the elements, mark the top and bottom, securely attach a dense bag with small fittings directly to the furniture. So surely nothing will be lost and not mixed up, and in the new apartment there will be no problems in order to assemble the furniture correctly and as quickly as possible. After disassembling, wrap individual parts with stretch packing tape, the corners can be protected with cardboard or several layers of air bubble packing tape.
Chairs, cabinets, coffee tables and other small pieces of furniture in preparation for the move, you can not disassemble, just unscrew the legs, handles and other protruding elements, if any. Then simply wrap in several layers of packing tape.
The packing tape will help protect upholstered furniture from moisture and dust. Additional protection for corners, individual parts or legs — cardboard, special “corners” or several layers of air-bubble packing tape.
It is best to invite professionals to disassemble and pack the built-in furniture or furniture with a complex construct.
We will dwell separately on the packaging of equipment:
TVs and monitors should be wrapped with air bubble packing tape, then corrugated cardboard, the corners should be further strengthened. The screen will protect an additional sheet of cardboard, place it in the first layer, before the packing tape.
If your refrigerator requires “defrosting”, take care of this in advance. Then remove all containers, shelves and drawers. Lock the door — use paper tape for this. You can protect the walls with cardboard and packing tape. Remember — the refrigerator is always transported in an upright position.
Fragile items should be wrapped in several layers of «bubbles», then just fold each item into a box to fit.
Wires and cables are optimally packaged and transported together with the items to which they belong (television — with a TV, from a laptop — with a laptop).
